Objectives
By attending the required clinics and meetings and by undertaking the
required reading program, students will develop some understanding
of the following areas of adolescent mental health that they
can apply to cases that are dealt with in the meetings:
- Adolescent development
- Peer relationships
- Family dynamics
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Physician's role
- Mental health role
- Community resources
Resources and learning opportunities
- Reading list will be provided
- Students will attend 2 of the following sessions:
- CD-Teen every week
- Tuesday 1-2pm (case discussion)
- ACCESS meeting
every other week - Thursday 10.00-11.00 (information
phone line)
- OASIS seminar, selected attendance - Thursday 12.30-1.30
- Students
will attend some of these multidisciplinary team
meetings and will be able to consider case material and
relevant issues from the perspective of the specified key
learning areas. A key text (to be specified) will help
the students to grasp the meanings of their key learning
areas. The ACCESS meeting is a weekly 'clearing house'
of complex calls to ACCESS-line. Some of the calls are
about seeking help from CAH, some are about looking for
a local resource. Most of the ACCESS calls are about mental
health problems.
- The student's one page report should discuss 4 of the topic
areas listed in light of cases discussed in the meetings
