Objectives

At the end of this elective students should be able to describe and discuss:

  1. Changes in incidence of type 1 diabetes during childhood and adolescence
  2. Known genetic and environmental risk factors in diabetes
  3. Genetic counselling issues - relative risk in first and second degree relatives according to age of onset and family history
  4. Atypical forms of diabetes during childhood and adolescence
