Objectives
At the end of this elective, students should be able to describe and
discuss:
- Similarities and differences between managing type 1 diabetes
in childhood vs. adulthood
- Implications of the Diabetes Control and Complications
Trial for management of diabetes during childhood
- Screening for diabetes-related complications during childhood
- "Sick-day management" - managing diabetes during intercurrent
illness
- Age and developmentally specific issues in diabetes management
for toddlers, school-age and adolescent patients
