Objectives
By the end of this elective, the student should:
- Know the most common causes of disability in childhood
- Have gained an awareness of the importance of establishing
a precise aetiological diagnosis, in order to provide
vital genetic and prognostic information
for families, and as a first step towards developing preventive
strategies
- Have an understanding of their incidence and prevalence,
including knowledge of how the frequency of these conditions
is varying over time
