Disability 1: Epidemiology and causes of disability in childhood

Objectives

By the end of this elective, the student should:

  1. Know the most common causes of disability in childhood
  2. Have gained an awareness of the importance of establishing a precise aetiological diagnosis, in order to provide vital genetic and prognostic information for families, and as a first step towards developing preventive strategies
  3. Have an understanding of their incidence and prevalence, including knowledge of how the frequency of these conditions is varying over time

  • Attendance at clinics, multidisciplinary assessments
  • Ward rounds
