Objectives
By the end of this elective, the student should:
- Know the most common causes of disability in childhood
- Have gained an understanding of the specific medical issues
that may be encountered at various ages, eg. preschool,
adolescence
- Have obtained knowledge of the range of services that
may be required at different times
- Have developed an understanding of the issues for families
as children grow and develop across the childhood and adolescent
years
Resources and learning opportunities
- A reading list will be provided
- Videotape is available
- Attendance at clinics, multidisciplinary assessments
- Ward rounds
- Student will observe the Clinical Nurse Consultant in Developmental
Disabilities
