Nutrition 2: The enterally fed child

Objectives

Upon completion of this study, the student will be able to describe:

  1. Indicators for enteral feeding of children
  2. Problems associated with enteral feeding of children
  3. Nutritionist troubleshooting of enteral feeding problems
  4. The role of RCH staff in enteral feeding: Gastroenterologist, Dietitian, Stomal Therapist

Report: The report on the elective should be presented in the form of a written case study for one enterally fed child. The case study should include: brief medical history, growth history, feeding history, indicators for enteral feeding, impact of enteral feeding on family life, supports available to family and long term feeding plan.

  3. View one enteral feed at ward level; observe set up, commencement and cessation of the feed
