Objectives

1. Develop an understanding of the medical aspects of paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), particularly with regard to the acute and ambulatory care and management
2. Understand the social impact of these chronic diseases on the family unit and the affected child
3. Develop clinical interview and case presentation skills

Resources and learning opportunities

1. Develop case records on 2 or more children with IBD and follow their clinical progress during the course of the rotation
2. Attend all investigative procedures that the child undergoes
3. Present the case study at regular clinical meetings with the Department of Gastroenterology
4. Consult with department clinical staff: Dr A. Webb, Senior Clinical Fellow; Dr Mark Oliver, head of Clinical Services, Department of Gastroenterology
5. A reading list will be provided at the commencement of the elective
