Objectives

  1. Understand the key factors in the relationship between education and health for children and adolescents
  2. Understand the range of factors which contribute to learning difficulties and perspectives for dealing with them
  3. Understand the role and value of multidisciplinary assessment for children with learning difficulties
  4. Understand the range of management/intervention strategies required
  5. Understand the evidence to support the use of different strategies
  6. Understand the range of school/community resources available

Resources and learning opportunities

  1. Health and education journals, texts and web based information (list will be provided to the student)
  2. Relevant parent information sheets
  3. Opportunity to attend at least one multidisciplinary assessment clinic
  4. Opportunity to liaise with the RCH Education Institute
  5. Opportunity to visit a school


Note: At the end of the study, the student should be able to discuss learning difficulties, demonstrating an understanding of multiple and diverse factors contributing to learning difficulties and their outcomes (eg. case presentation, case study), showing an integration of multiple sources of information.
