Objectives
- Appreciate the impact of chronic illness on the child's view of themselves
and their place in the world
- Examine the concepts of resilience and vulnerability in
relation to chronic illness
- Develop skills in relating to chronically ill children
and their families
- Understand how and when to make a mental health referral
for a child and/or family
Resources and learning opportunities
- Spend approximately two hours in RCH Mental Health service
- Observation of mental health assessment and treatment
sessions with children with chronic illness and their families
- Attendance at relevant ward psychosocial meetings
- Access to relevant literature, case presentations and
professional development sessions
