Objectives

To gain an understanding of the perioperative care of neonates, students should be able to:

1. Give a brief account of a neonate undergoing anaesthesia
2. Outline the physiological differences between neonates and adults paying particular attention to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems
3. Explain the main issues surrounding anaesthetic management of the neonate
