Behaviour 2: The pre-schooler

Objectives

The student will study:

  1. The emphasis on the essential link between behavioural concerns and development
  2. Developmental surveillance
    • Informal
    • Formal eg. Denver, PEDS
  3. Management of common parental concerns eg. aggression, non-compliance, anxieties

Resources and learning opportunities

The student's report will include (de-identified) children seen in the following clinical situations:

  1. CCCH Behaviour clinic (CCCH, 6th floor, SE building): Wednesday 9.00 pre-school and school age children; contact Dr Daryl Efron, clinic coordinators Wendy/Renee extension: 5466
  2. Private consultant clinics: Dr Rick Jarman (3rd floor, Front Entry building, Royal Children's Hospital)
  3. Child Development and Rehabilitation: Multidisciplinary development assessment over 2-4 sessions (speech pathology, psychology, paediatrics); follow a child/family through the assessment process
  4. Audiology department - assessments
  5. Interactive CD-ROM "Child Growth and Development" from the Department of Paediatrics
