Objectives
The WHO recently declared tuberculosis (TB) a global emergency and it
is very important to understand its impact on developed and developing
countries alike. Students can learn about the investigation,
diagnosis and treatment of children at risk of TB.
- Learn about new tests used to investigate TB
- The use of antibiotics
- The rationale for treating children in contact with TB
and those infected without overt signs of the disease
- The history of TB and the global impact
Resources and learning opportunities
TB clinics are held every
four weeks on Friday mornings in Outpatients. A student would
be expected to attend 2 clinics, which restricts this elective
to students who are at RCH for the term or who can be available
to attend 2 Fridays in two months. The supervisor will guide the
student toward appropriate material in the TB literature.
