Behaviour 3: School age child

Objectives

The student will study:

  1. Learning difficulties - things to consider eg. hearing, auditory processing, language/literacy disability, cognitive impairment etc.
  2. ADHD - principles of assessment, including interview, use and interpretation of parent and teacher-completed behaviour rating scales, identification of co-morbidities

Resources and learning opportunities

The student's report will include reference to (de-identified) children seen in the following clinical situations:

  1. Learning and Behaviour clinic, Centre for Community Child Health (6th floor, SE building), Monday 9.00, clinic coordinators Wendy/Renee, extension: 5466. Contact Dr Carl Orkin
  2. CCCH School Function program - Thursday am, multidisciplinary assessment of development/learning
  3. Private Consultant clinics: 3rd Floor, Front Entry building, Dr Colin Feekery, Dr Rick Jarman
  4. Audiology and auditory processing assessment
  5. Cognitive assessment - observe an educational psychologist assess a child (psychometric, academic achievement testing)
  6. Speech and language assessments
  7. Refer NHMRC document 1997
  8. When at Austin Hospital, arrange to attend the Teenage Psycho-Social meetings
