Research Higher Degrees

Doctor of Philosophy

Together with the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, we have a large and diverse program incorporating laboratory, clinical and public health research. Read more about the specific research projects that were offered in our department in 2009 (2010 projects coming soon). New projects will be reviewed by the Research Higher Degree (RHD) Committee. Supervisors should read the guidelines for new projects [PDF 13k] before discussing the project with a potential student. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is administered through the Melbourne School of Graduate Research. Doctor of Medical Science

This research degree is for candidates who have an MBBS degree (or equivalent). Find out more about the Doctor of Medical Science (DMedSc) degree.

Master of Surgery

This research degree is for candidates who have an MBBS degree (or equivalent) and surgical experience. Find out more about Master of Surgery (MS) degrees.

Master of Science by Research

Master of Health Sciences by Research (Genetic Counselling)

This Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) involves extended study in the field of genetic counselling by research, with some coursework. Qualitative research is encouraged in areas of clinical relevance to genetic counselling practice and theory. Find out more about the Master of Health Sciences (Genetic Counselling).

Master of Medicine

The Master of Medicine (MMed) is usually done over two years as a coursework degree, but a one or two year MMed by Research can also be arranged for eligible candidates. Read more about MMed degrees.

Research Higher Degrees Committee
