Resources for Research Higher Degree studentsPage content: 1. Facilities | 2. Scholarships | 3. Induction | 4. Postgraduate retreat The Department of Paediatrics takes very seriously the responsibility of providing adequate facilities and resources for postgraduate research students, whether they are based on campus, at the Royal Children’s Hospital, at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, or elsewhere. Support for students is a priority of the Department’s Research Higher Degrees Committee, to whom any concerns can be addressed. FacilitiesWith over one hundred postgraduate students enrolled in the department at any one time, facilities will nonetheless vary across projects. Prospective students are advised to consult with their supervisor(s) about this before starting their research. In general, all students have access to a computer and will be allocated desk and/or laboratory space as appropriate. ScholarshipsThe Royal Children’s Hospital offers Postgraduate Health Research Scholarships annually. The Department of Paediatrics has travel scholarship funds for which Reseach Higher Degree (RHD) students may apply. Eligible Department of Paediatrics RHD students may also apply for top-up scholarships and overseas travel grants from the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI). InductionInduction sessions for new RHD students are organised at least once a year (generally in March). Postgraduate retreatThe Department of Paediatrics also participates in the sponsorship of an annual two day retreat for postgraduate students, where all accommodation and meals are provided. This is organised by the Postgraduate Students' Association. |
